The following outlines one way you can use xfODBC to enable Microsoft Access to access Synergy data. This procedure was created using Microsoft Office Access 2007. Steps may vary for other versions of Access. See the Microsoft Office Access help for more information.

Note that before you can do the following, you must create a system catalog, a connect file, and a DSN for a Synergy database. For information on preparing Synergy data for xfODBC access, see the xfODBC User\'s Guide.

1. Open Microsoft Access, click the Office button (in the upper-left corner of the Access window), and select New.

2. Under "Blank Database" on the right side of the Microsoft Access window, select a location and enter a name for the database. Then click Create.

3. In the All Tables pane, right-click "Table1 : Table" and select Import > ODBC Database from the context menu.

4. In the "Get External Data - ODBC Database" window, select "Link to the data source..." or "Import the source data..." and click OK. (Linking to a table enables you to update the Synergy database. If you prefer that the Synergy data not be changed, select "Import the source data...".)

5. In the Select Data Source window, go to the Machine Data Source tab and select the DSN for the database. Then click OK.

If a user name, password, or connect file has not been stored in the DSN you selected, you are prompted to enter the missing information. (If you initialized users and groups, you can use DBADMIN for the user name and MANAGER for the password.)

6. In the Link Tables window, click Select All (or select only those tables you want to link to) and click OK.

The selected tables are now accessible as if they were a Microsoft Access database.
